At Unpack by David Dorais

At Unpack by David Dorais

My stay at Unpack Studio has been amazing. One of the main reasons why I wanted to go there was to finally – after this busy, crazy last year – find some time to work on my next book.

That I found, but so much more also. I met a wonderful fantasy and sci-fi writer who looks like a metalhead (who IS a metelhead!) ; I attended two exhibition openings at art galleries;  I went to the screening of a documentary in a theater called The Enchanted Deer (El Ciervo Encantado) ; I met a visual artist at his studio ; I attended a rumba event where costumed deities appeared before us ; I had a guided tour of the Fine Arts Museum with one of the best curators there is in Cuba…

With Yoss

All the team there does an impeccable job at showing you the different aspects of Cuban culture. On top of that I found the time to walk in Havana and discover this unique city. This stay was not just a calm period for writing, it has been a deep experience that will likely influence my work and my views on culture for years to come.
